Tea and Soreen was one of my ultimate comfort food combinations back in the day when I was living in the UK and Ireland. (The other favourite combination of mine was watching Project Runway while eating Hula Hoops, but I'll leave that for another time. For the record, Kenley Collins was a bitch, but I loved her vintage inspired dresses.) Nothing beats Barry's Tea sweetened with honey, with a buttered slice of sticky malt bread. Mmmmm. It really was the thing to eat on a cold and dreary winter spring autumn okay, all year around if we're talking about Ireland.
Since moving back to Oz, I'd been told by someone (but I forget who,) that it's actually possible to buy Soreen from selected supermarkets. I actually stumbled across it a couple of months back - you know those times when you see something at the supermarket and then figure you'd buy it another time, only to not be able to find it again? This is exactly what happened with Soreen, and so when I finally found it again, (note to others who are interested - you can find it in the big Woolworths in Melbourne city), I just had to buy it. Never mind that it is currently summer and actually hot in Melbourne. It's now sitting in an airtight container in the fridge waiting for that cold and dreary day. As they say over here in Melbourne, if you don't like the weather, just wait a little.
